HAMPTON
SPECIAL EDUCATION ADVISORY
COMMITTEE
Who We Are and What We Do
The Hampton City Schools (HCS) Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) is organized and functions in accordance with state and federal laws.
Virginia’s Department of Education states: “The major purpose of SEACs is to provide an opportunity for parents and other school board appointees to have a voice in the way school divisions provide services to students with disabilities. SEACs are extensions of local school boards since members are appointed by them...”
Accordingly, SEAC advises Hampton’s School Board and Superintendent on special education issues and ways in which the school division can make special education services as effective as possible. The committee is a collaborative team of school division personnel, parents, community representatives, and other stakeholders.
