Special Education / Disability-Related
Resources
The special education arena, along with its processes and accompanying federal and state laws, is complex. It can often be an overwhelming world for parents and families. For these reasons, the federal government required each state to establish at least one Parent Training and Information Center (PTI).
The Commonwealth of Virginia's PTI is the Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center (PEATC). Their focus is children with disabilities. They serve children and their families by promoting respectful, collaborative partnerships between parents, school divisions, professionals, and communities to increase the possibilities of success for children with disabilities.
In addition to PEATC resources, below are a few tips and more links to special education and disability sites that may be helpful. It is not meant to be comprehensive; it is a starting point. If you are unable to find what you are looking for here, feel free to contact the SEAC or Special Education Department (757-727-2400).
